Building Official
General Statement of Duties:
The primary duty of the Building Official is to ensure that public health and safety is maintained from the aspect of effective code interpretation, administration and enforcement. The Building Official ensures the completion of plan review, permit application review, the issuance of building and other associated permits, inspections, and certificates of occupancy with the highest level of customer service and efficiency. The Building Official plans, coordinates, and manages the operations and activities of the Building Inspection Division of the Development Services Department and serves as the division’s chief plan reviewer.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Local and state building codes and zoning ordinances; sound construction principles and practices; and standard office practices and procedures. Effectively read, interpret, and apply manuals, plans, and building codes; inspect and evaluate conditions of construction sites; apply safety standard to prevent hazards; use mathematical calculations to estimate material quantities and project costs; develop, organize, motivate, and effectively utilize staff; communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; and establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and the general public; requires a self-starter who can utilize the resources within the department and City to effectively enforce.
Required Experience and Training:
A bachelor’s degree in architecture; building construction, engineering or closely related field and 5 years progressively responsible experience in general construction, Building Official Certification (CBO) as issued by International Code Council (ICC), ICC Plans Examiner Certificate, ICC Electrical Inspector Certificate, and ICC Mechanical Inspector Certificate preferred. Minimum requirements are a high school diploma or its equivalent plus five years of experience in the plumbing, electrical and construction fields; Texas State plumbing inspector license; or any equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Required Certificates and Licenses:
Valid Texas driver’s license with good driving record. Building Inspector certification and State Plumbing license requires; CBO (certified building official). ICC Electrical Inspector Certification and ICC Mechanical Inspector Certification preferred.

Water Technician
General Statement of Duties:
Operates various equipment and assists with various duties involved in and the maintenance and construction of city water system components.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Water system principles, practices, procedures, and safety codes;
- Standard office practices and procedures.
- Build, maintain, and repair water lines
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and the general public
- Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
- Read and interpret manuals, policies, and other documents.
Required Experience and Training:
High school graduation or its equivalent plus one year of related experience; or any equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Required Certificates and Licenses:
Valid Class C Texas driver’s license; Class C wastewater certificate and Class C water certificate.
