Letter to Granite Shoals Citizens 8-2018 Road Bond work begins_page_001.jpg

Letter from the Mayor:
To the Citizens and
Property Owners of Granite Shoals:

Improvements to our three arterial roads, Valley View Ln., Prairie Creek Rd., and Phillips Ranch Rd. will begin on Tuesday, August 28, 2018. Funds to improve the three arterial roads were approved by voters in November 2017. Bids received were well under estimated costs, allowing for additional work to be performed within the scope of the voter approved bonds. As part of the project requirements, contractors are being required to provide traffic control signs and flagman, as needed. I ask for your patience, while this work is being completed and consider alternate routes in and out of the city to avoid construction areas.

The project has been divided into two phases. Phase I involves the complete reconstruction of Phillips Ranch Road from RM 1431 to Newcastle Drive, including the realignment of the two curve sections and partial replacement of an 8-inch water line. Construction of phase I will be in two parts, with the south end being completed first. The overall timing to complete the entire length, south & north ends, is estimated to be 60 days. The winning contractor is Pro Dirt Services, LLC. After finishing the south end road base, the contractor intends to install a temporary road surface while they work on the north end. After the north end is completed, both the south and north ends will receive a final two-inch hot asphalt overlay.

The second phase, involves Valley View Ln., Prairie Creek Rd. and Phillips Ranch Rd from Newcastle Dr. to Live Oak Drive, which will also start on August 28. Each road will be patched by removing 8-inch-deep sections of the road base and replacing it with a hot asphalt mix. This is similar to what occurred recently on FM-1431 in Granite Shoals and is currently happening in Marble Falls. The patch work is extensive, and it will include a portion of some of the abutting side roads. The winning contractor is Fuquay, Inc. They estimate the patch work will take a week for each of the three roads, and another week or two to place a two-inch hot asphalt mix over the entire length of the three road sections included in phase II. Work will begin on Valley View Ln, followed by Prairie Creek Rd. and then Phillips Ranch Rd from Newcastle Dr. to Live Oak Dr.

Again, we appreciate your patience.
