Press Release from Granite Shoals Police Department regarding April 10th incident on Washington DR

For 04/10/2019

GRANITE SHOALS, Texas. On April 10, 2019, at 0913 hours, a 911 call was received reporting a harassment and a shot fired into the air. Officers quickly responded to the report in the 2200 block of Washington Drive. On arrival, the first officer attempted to make contact with the suspect, later identified as Gregory Edward Beversdorf, WM DOB 06/24/1963, at his residence, a small travel trailer. The officer knocked on the side of the trailer and stepped to the side to watch the front door. Moments later, a shot was fired from inside the trailer outward in the direction of where the officer had knocked. As the officer re-positioned to a safer location as Beversdorf exited the trailer holding a shotgun and fired a shot at the officer as he was moving for safety. The officer was not stuck nor injured. Beversdorf returned inside the trailer.

The officer requested additional assistance. Multiple agencies responded to assist. As additional resources arrived residents in neighboring homes were evacuated for safety. Negotiators made contact with Beversdorf by phone. Once contact was made negotiators worked to end the situation without further danger to officers. Beversdorf broke off communication and then exited the trailer, unarmed. Beversdorf was confronted by officers outside the trailer and did not comply with commands. Officers deployed a Taser on Beversdorf. Beversdorf was immediately taken into custody. EMS was called to the scene to evaluate Beversdorf prior to being transported to the Burnet County Jail.

Once cleared by EMS, Beversdorf was transported to the Burnet County jail. After consultation with the District Attorney's Office, Beversdorf was charged with Attempted Capital Murder of a Peace Officer, a 1st degree felony; Aggravated Assault with Deadly Weapon against Public Servant, a 1st degree felony; and Deadly Conduct, a 3rd degree felony. At the time of this press release no bond information was available.

Chief Gary Boshears wanted to “thank the assisting agencies for this call including; Marble Falls Police Department, Burnet County Sheriff's Office, Department of Public Safety, Horseshoe Bay Police Department, 33rd District Attorney's Office, Burnet County Precinct 4 Constable's Office, Granite Shoals Fire Department, and Marble Falls Area EMS,”. Boshears continued to “thank the residents of Granite Shoals for following social media updates and being patient as this scene unfolded.
