Animal Control
April 2018: Here is a new flyer with information about our Animal Control efforts.

Because residents and visitors in the city of Granite Shoals are able to share their surroundings with both domestic and wild animals, the role of Animal Control is vital to ensure safe human and animal interaction. Animal Control is charged with the task of promoting and protecting public safety and animal care through both education and enforcement.

Key duties of the animal control officer include:
  • Transferring strays and abandoned pets to the local Animal Control Facility
  • Monitoring rabies and other infectious animal diseases
  • Educating the public about vaccination and city registration.
  • Enforcement of state laws and city ordinances

The Animal Control officer will remove deer carcasses from private or public property Monday - Friday 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM.  Except for these circumstances, Animal Control does not handle any non-domesticated animals except in instances of suspected rabies.

The department does not operate an animal shelter.

T?he City of Granite Shoals ?contracts with the Hill Country Humane Society for animal shelter and adoption services.  Visit the Hill Country Humane Society / formerly Christ-Yoder Animal Adoption Center for more details and information.

How to Register Your Pet

To register your pet, you must complete a registration form for each pet.  The city allows no more than five pets. This doesn't include puppies or kittens too young to wean.  The charge to register a pet is currently $35.00 for lifetime of the animal.  When you have printed and completed the form, please bring to City Hall along with your payment and proof of rabies vaccination for each pet.  At the utility billing window, the billing clerk will be glad to assist you.

Non Domestic Animals or Deer

With Questions Regarding Deer, please call Non-Emergency Police Dispatch at 830-598-4818.   The City will respond to injured or dead deer depending on personnel available and the hazard posed by the animal.   Here is the New Policy.   The City cannot address issues with other non-domesticated animals.
