John Rinehart Spirit of Service Award

Resolution No. 469

A resolution of the city of Granite Shoals, Texas, establishing the John Reinhart Memorial Award for outstanding community service for the city of Granite Shoals.

Whereas, the City Council wishes to honor the memory of John Rinehart, one of the most active volunteers our city has ever known, by establishing an award to be presented once a year to a citizen who displays a similar spirit of service;

Now, therefore, be it resolved by the city council of the city of Granite Shoals, Texas, that:

The Council establishes the "John Rinehart Memorial Award for Outstanding Community Service".

Section I

The Name of the Award will be the John Rinehart Memorial Award for Outstanding Community Service

Section II

Description of Award: John Rinehart brought special qualities to his service to our community. He was straightforward, kind, and always put forth an earnest effort in his volunteer service. He never 'sought the limelight' and much of his volunteer service was done 'behind the scenes'. This award is recognition of an individual by a peer or peers in the community for outstanding service. This award might be awarded to someone who served in the community in a program the city did or did not sponsor. This award is designed to recognize service to our community that is notable because of the spirit of the service, in generosity of time, effort, benefit to the community, community pride, and humility.

Nominations & Awards

Nomination Forms for the Award are accepted by the City Secretary from June 30th through September 30th of each year. The nominee is eligible, unless they are a member of City staff or serving on the City Council. The volunteer does not have to volunteer on a city committee but may volunteer anywhere in our community. The nomination forms are available from City Hall or contact the City Secretary at 830-598-2424.

The plaque of award recipients is displayed at City Hall.

Recipients

The John Rinehart Award Recipient for 2025 is Michele Landfield. The presentation was made at the December 10, 2024, City Council meeting acknowledging Michele Landfield's contributions to the city of Granite Shoals.
