The City of Granite Shoals provides water and garbage service to the residents and businesses within the City. These services are on one monthly bill and individually itemized.
Water
Water Rates are updated from time-to-time by City Council Ordinance. The water rates may be found in the General Fee Schedule which is Appendix B of the City Code.
The City of Granite Shoals consistently tests and treats our public drinking water to provide a superior quality drinking water to the members of this community by production, purification, and distribution of water that meets or exceed both state and federal requirements. In addition to our extensive testing and treatment program, we also systematically flush our water distribution lines to remove residual particles and introduce freshly treated water.

Understanding Your Bill
A 3.23% annual Waste Management rate adjustment was approved by the City Council on December 10, 2024. The annual rate adjustment is a provision in our current solid waste agreement with Waste Management, and the new rate took effect in the December 2024 billing cycle.
- Residential Service: Trash service for 1 garbage can and 1 recycle bin increased from $29.58 to $30.54, a 3.23% increase. Each additional garbage can or recycling bin is $4.65.
- Short Term Rental: Trash service for 1 garbage can and 1 recycle bin increased from $40.11 to $41.40, a 3.23% increase. Each additional garbage can or recycling bin is $11.47.
Granite Shoals utility bills have consistently included an 8% franchise fee, which was previously added to the garbage line item. Effective December 1, 2024, the 8% franchise fee was removed from the garbage line and included on the sales tax line.
Here is a quick rundown of how the tax is calculated:
To calculate the Sales Tax / Franchise Fee, multiply the GAR line by 16.25% (8% franchise fee and 8.25% sales tax fee) + City Wide Clean up fee of $0.75 by 8.25% (8.25% sales tax).
Discontinue Water or Garbage Services
You can cancel your Water or Garbage services by completing this Utility Disconnect Application form (PDF). Please return this by mail, in person at City Hall, or by email.
Voluntary Donation
The City Council of Granite Shoals approved the ability for residents to donate $3 per month via water bill payments for the support of police, fire, and emergency medical services. The money donated to the city by this method is divided equally among the services.
